2026 Summer College Internship Program for IT Support - Harbor Foods Group

 

GENERAL SUMMARYThe IT Support Intern will work alongside the ITS1 and ITS2 Support teams to provide frontline technical assistance to internal users. This role is designed to develop foundational IT support skills through handson experience with hardware, software, ticketing systems, and customer service best practices. The intern will assist with daytoday support tasks, device preparation, troubleshooting, documentation, and user support while learning when and how to escalate more complex issues to senior support staff.

**Harbor Internship in IT will be onsite in Lacey, WA  for students with existing residence in the greater Thurston/Pierce County area**

 

 Education and Experience:

  • Current junior or senior standing in Information Technology or Computer Sciences or a directly related field to IT Support

Compensation:  $20/hour

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with daily support tasks assigned through the IT ticketing system.
  • Provide firstlevel support to end users via phone, email, inperson requests, and work orders.
  • Accurately document issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions in the ticketing system.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Assist with installing, configuring, and upgrading software and standard applications.
  • Help prepare, deploy, and refresh enduser devices (laptops, desktops, mobile devices).
  • Test fixes to confirm issues have been resolved before closing tickets.
  • Escalate issues appropriately to ITS2 or Systems teams when required.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Provide friendly, professional, and timely support to internal users.
  • Communicate clearly with users about issue status, next steps, and expected outcomes.
  • Build rapport with users and ask effective questions to understand reported issues.
  • Follow up with users to ensure satisfaction after issues are resolved.

 ASSET & DOCUMENTATION SUPPORT

  • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records for IT equipment.
  • Help track issued devices, accessories, and basic warranty information.
  • Support documentation of procedures, configurations, and common troubleshooting steps.

OTHER

  • Understand and ensure policies and procedures are adhered to regarding Harbor computer usage guidelines and pol
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by providing accuracy
  • Work with leadership to improve work processes, ensure documentation and project needs are completed accurately and in a timely
  • Maintain safe and healthy training environment by following organization standards and legal
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong interest in Information Technology and IT support.
  • Intermediate and highly proficient understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and common applications.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and follow documented procedures.
  • Willingness to ask questions and take initiative when learning new tasks.
